Dawn D’Aries

Creative Writing

Dawn D’Aries was a finalist for the PEN/Bellwether Prize for a Socially Engaged Fiction manuscript, and winner of the Crazyhorse Journal Prize for Creative Nonfiction.

An instructor of writing and literature for northeast Pennsylvania colleges, Dawn also is a freelance writer and editor, and has taught children’s creative writing workshops for the Penn State Lehman summer program and Wilkes University.

Through exercises focused on fun and discovery, she encourages teens to expand their imaginations and experiment with writing in a variety of genres — particularly fiction, creative nonfiction, playwriting and screenwriting. She also discusses pathways to getting work out to an audience.

Dawn has a particular interest in nurturing an appreciation of nature and the outdoors. In the classroom, she demonstrates how collaboration can produce exceptional art.

She has a Master of Arts and Master of Fine Arts in creative writing.
